Fueling the Workforce of Tomorrow

Pflugerville is home to a dynamic, evolving workforce with strong potential for growth. Over 93% of residents commute outside the city for work, showing an opportunity to retain local talent. Meanwhile, jobs in advanced technology and innovation have surged, with software development growing by 121% and demand for data scientists increasing by an astounding 918% over the last decade. Skilled trades like electrical work are also booming, but gaps remain: Pflugerville ISD currently offers no Electrical CTE program, even though electrician jobs are among the fastest growing in the region. These statistics show just how important it is to align education, training, and support systems to meet today’s workforce needs.

Looking Ahead: What the Numbers Signal

Pflugerville’s strategic opportunity areas—including Advanced Technology, Software & IT, Life Sciences, Retail, and Skilled Trades—are experiencing major talent demand. For example: Engineering-related jobs are growing faster than local higher education programs can supply talent, with demand exceeding graduation rates by over 50% in some cases. Electricians saw a 94.7% employment increase over the past decade, yet no current CTE programs exist locally to feed that pipeline. Over 37,000 completions in higher education programs happened in the Austin region in 2022, but none in Pflugerville itself, highlighting a missed opportunity for local training capacity. Employer interviews and job posting analysis suggest continued growth across middle- and high-skill roles, especially in CNC machining, software development, and healthcare.
